The James Castle Collection and Archive (JCCA) is pleased to present a new book and exhibition about American artist James Castle. The James Castle Primer, published by JCCA and produced by Lucia|Marquand is an 80-page book, neatly packed with lush images of Castle’s soot drawings, handmade books and constructions, with 54 color plates. It provides readers with a concise, yet thorough overview of Castle’s life and art career, which spanned more than six decades.
Nicholas R. Bell, the Senior Vice President for Curatorial Affairs at the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut, wrote the essay that weaves through the book. He helped oversee the 2012 acquisition of Castle’s work for the Smithsonian American Art Museum when he was the Fleur and Charles Senior Curator of American Craft and Decorative Art.
The James Castle Primer (An Exhibition) includes original works featured in the Primer. The exhibition is on view at JCCA, 223 South 17th Street, Boise, ID, November 15-February 28, 2019. Public viewing hours are from 10am-4pm on Thursdays or by appointment. Call 208.336.2671 or email email@example.com for an appointment.
The Primer is available for $24.95 at jamescastle.com, as well as at the James Castle House General Store.
